Get Well
As a self portrait series, this project depicts my conflict with alcoholism and mental illness that is strung through my addiction. Showing symbols of misery, relief, ambition, this investigation is a way of moving forward and addressing my predicament directly by confronting the lens of the camera and being vulnerable to the viewers. Get Well is strictly photographed in the confines of my condo where the occurrences have unfolded. While incorporating what I see from my windows is a metaphor for always looking to the outside for help, or reasoning behind my actions. It also shows the feeling of being trapped in a mental state and only having my outside view as something real in nature. Showing my story through imagery is a way of photo therapy, expressing the need to talk about mental illness and the ways they are formed and seen.
